Equitant - Body Vehement Review @ Klangwelt Magazine (Germany)

Gezielte Electrofusion: Equitant – ‘Body Vehement’.

Equitant – Techno/EBM/Disco Fusion. Durchdachte Schnittstellenmusik, so pragmatisch könnte man den aktuellen Output des bereits seit 1993 tätigen Projektes Equitant bezeichnen. Das fünfte Werk Body Vehement tummelt sich zwischen kühlem Techno, zackigen EBM Sequenzen, Electro & Disco. Mal funktional (Let Me Be On), dann wieder etwas kantiger und doch lässig-düster (Body Vehement, Das Menschliche Rennen). 20th Juli 2012 by KW.

Equitant - Body Vehement Review @ Eine Tasse Jager (Norway)

Equitant returns 3 years later since the last release Dynamism (not counting any remixes inbetween 2009 and 2012) with a new one: Body Vehement. Not only is Equitant the only (to my knowledge) old school EBM/anhalt EBM directed artist from the good old West, the music stands out on its own across all of the industrial and electro body music scene. Monotonic, as always very hard-beating, minimalist and yet often with floating and atmospheric soundscapes on top (which may make one think of newest Signal Aout 42 albums), Equitant stays as unique and great as always has been.

1. Body Vehement (Original Mix) - is a hard hitting, yet floating (as mentioned above, ala SA42) experience. 2. Body Vehement (Equitant Remix) - is a more monotonic and minimalist version. 3. Let Me Be On feat. Yasmin Gate (Original Mix) - presents magnificent vocals from Yasmin Gate that have always gone so well along Equitant's music. Hard hitting and tough track! 4. Dynamique feat. Lea X (Original Mix) - a slightly softer, more melodic and dreamy through female vocals track, (although it never leaves the basic ground of EBM) 5. Dynamique feat. Bastian (Equitant Remix) - the favorite for Eine Tasse Jäger, this one is again very floating, presenting a male version of vocals. A fantastic experience. 6. Das Menschliche Rennen feat. Illumine Concrete (Original Mix) and 7. Das Menschliche Rennen feat. Illumine Concrete (Equitant Remix) both are more monotonic typical Equitant tracks that fit in nicely with the rest of the album.

Equitant's Body Vehement shows off his expertise: taking electronic music to it's raw basics, adding a personal touch of hard beats and bass, creating unique melodies and synth tracks with a strong punch, and then either letting them stay monotonic and hard, or adding a layer of atmosphere that not only makes you want to stomp around and dance, but also may let you dream away. This is what Equitant does best and what makes him stand out in industrial/techno/EBM/Oldschool-EBM scene. Now someone, please, arrange for Equitant to finally come and play in Europe! "Equitant strikes back stronger than before" Equitant - Body Vehement Review @ Side-Line Magazine (Belgium)

Ray Heflin remains one of my favorite musicians from the past year. While this American body freak is still in search of the ‘big international' recognition I can assure you there are real famous names who don't have a similar talent. Each time again this artist surprises me with his fresh and minimal EBM vibes. "Body Vehement" is a new exploration of the body-tech fields and a new union with guest singers. The title song features the usual Equitant ingredients made of typical EBM-vibes with deep bass sounds, a danceable body-tech beat, darker vintage strings and robotic half spoken vocals. The remix features a few different sounds, but remains gorgeous EBM. "Let Me Be On" featuring Yasmin Gate stands for a winning formula. Equitant has already collaborated in the past with Yasmin Gate. She still has that alluring sexy timbre of voice, which creates a divine match with the minimalism of Heflin. Another female guest singer is the even more sexy sounding Lea X singing on "Dynamique". A very warm and melodic string showcases her warm, sensual voice. Equitant made a great remix of this song which features the French producer Bastian on vocals. The twist between Heflin's electronics and Bastian half spoken French words is sublime. The melodic tune here again accentuates the singer's vocals. The melody is not exactly a new element is Equitant's sound although it's not that usual. But the best is yet to come with both versions of "Das Menschliche Rennen" featuring Illumine concrete (German producer). Both versions are quite DAF-like, but once again in a more minimal and technoid approach. The metallic bass line running through this song is pure lust and joy while the echoing German lyrics are injecting an astral dimension. Equitant strikes back stronger than before. I hope the recent paternity of Ray Heflin will only incite him to go on writing such a sublime music! 20/07/12 (DP:9)DP. Review by: Stephane Froidcoeur

Review: Equitant - Body Vehement @ Brutal Resonance (Sweden)

'Body Vehement' is Equitant's fifth full length album. The album includes original mixes plus Equitant remixes and featuring vocals by: Lea X, Yasmin Gate, Bastian & Illumine Concrete.

We start with "Body Vehement (Original Mix)", it oozes with excitement and power from the start, EBM sounds to dance to. An emotional, intense and impassioned EBM track with a techno beat, a bass-driven floor-filler in the right setting. All this is accompanied by some clear deep vocals, which leaves us in no doubt as to what Equitant likes. Your body will just move along with the sounds from start to finish with little effort at least from your brain, just go with it. The "Body Vehement (Equitant Remix)", moves to a more layered electro sound, still with the great bass to the fore. A good enough remix but I prefer the simple aggression of the original mix. You will feel it deeply!

"Let Me Be On feat. Yasmin Gate (Original Mix)" is a superb techno/EDM track, mesmerising music made for the dance-floor. Great synths and a drum beat that leads Yasmin's vocals through perfectly. A very spiritual and futuristic dance track, almost having a tribal beat which you could easily get lost in and then taken away to a faraway place by Yasmin.

"Dynamique feat. Lea X (Original Mix)", features a slower but powerful drum beat with layers of synths, which include a background of beautiful of synth sound against a faster pounding wall of sound. Techno with an element of disco again perfect for the dance floor. The wall of music and great vocals from Lea X work together to form a trance like effect. Italo disco/space disco sounds abound throughout. We continue with the remix version "Dynamique feat. Bastian (Equitant Remix)", powerful drums to the fore with the disco sounds in the distance. The lyrics this time in French give it even more sex appeal to cause even more dynamic movement of the body.

Das Menschliche Rennen feat. Illumine Concrete (Original Mix) returns us to more of a EBM /techno sound but still has a real classic disco element in it. The disco element giving a great beat and turning it into another good dance track. The faster synth sounds make it classic Eurobeat. The contrasting dark vocals work very well. We complete the album the remix of that track "Das Menschliche Rennen feat. Illumine Concrete (Equitant Remix)". It has more of an old-school EBM sound but still retains a dance beat, so "New Beat" is the descriptive term I am looking for.

Conclusion:
An excellent blend of EBM, techno, Italo disco and more, making every track a floor-filler. It's dark-disco at it's best, real electronic dance music with a backbone. The Italian producer Adriano Canzian has described Equitant's sound as, "Powerful, Sexy, Strong, ..simply amazing", and I must agree totally. There is no weak track for me but for the highlight I choose the opening track "Body Vehement (Original Mix)" because as I said it is an emotional, intense and impassioned EBM track. I hear so many things in this album from Giorgio Moroder to DAF and Front 242 and recommend it thoroughly. 9/10
